Prayer and Dedication after a Civil Marriage

"Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony."

(Colossians 3:14)

Not everyone gets married in church—but that doesn’t mean your marriage can’t be celebrated in God’s presence.

What is a Service of Prayer and Dedication after a Civil Marriage?

If you were married in a civil ceremony, whether recently or many years ago, you may wish to mark your commitment with a special service in church. We offer a service of Prayer and Dedication after a Civil Marriage—a beautiful and meaningful way to give thanks for your marriage, seek God’s blessing, and dedicate your life together before family, friends, and the wider community. So, whether you were married abroad, in a registry office, or in another setting, this service is open to you. It’s especially meaningful for couples who are rediscovering faith, reconnecting with church, or simply want to celebrate their marriage in the sacred space of Easthampstead Church.

A Service of Dedication, Not a Re-enactment

This isn’t a second wedding. There are no legal vows or registers to sign. Instead, it’s a chance to pause, reflect, and pray:

  • To give thanks for the love you share
  • To acknowledge the journey you’ve taken together
  • To ask for God’s guidance and grace in the years ahead

The service can be simple and intimate, or more formal with hymns, readings, and music. It can be tailored to reflect your story and your hopes for the future. Whether intimate or grand, the service can be tailored to suit your wishes and may even take place during our regular Thursday service. If you choose to renew your vows as part of the Thursday service, there is no fee—though you will need to pay for an organist if you wish to have one. If you prefer a separate, bespoke service, a further fee applies.

Personalising Your Service

If this speaks to you, we’d love to talk. You can find out more about the service on the Church of England’s website, or contact us to explore what this could look like for you.
