Bellringers

We are a group of bellringers of all ages, who meet regularly to ring the bells at Easthampstead Church. We ring before the main service on Sunday morning from 8.55am to 9.30am, and at other times such as weddings. We practice every Thursday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Bellringing has so many different aspects to it, which really does make it appealing to so many different types of people. Words like − community, challenge, achievement, history, teamwork, competitions, service to the church, service to the community, fun, a social life, variety, music − regularly crop up when you ask people why they enjoy ringing so much.

Wellbeing

  1. Mind-Body Connection: Bell ringing keeps both your mind and body active. It requires concentration, memory, and focus.
  2. Social Interaction: Bell ringing is done as a group, providing an opportunity to socialise and make new friends. It connects you with a community of over 30,000 ringers worldwide. Regardless of age or ability, everyone can participate and it can help you to feel embedded in your community.
  3. Stress Relief: The rhythmic motion of bell ringing can be meditative and soothing, making it an excellent stress-relieving activity.
  4. Increased Confidence: Learning a new skill like bell ringing boosts confidence and self-esteem.

Fitness

  1. Cardiovascular Exercise: The repetitive motion of bell ringing builds muscle endurance and cardiovascular fitness. The swinging motion provides a cardio workout, allowing bell ringers to improve heart health and reduce the risk of heart disease.
  2. Improved Coordination: Coordination between the arms and legs are essential for successful bell ringing. Whilst practicing this skill you engage multiple muscle groups, which can enhance overall coordination and balance.
  3. Increased Flexibility: The full range of motion required during bell ringing helps improve flexibility and mobility in the shoulders, arms, and legs.
  4. Stronger Muscles: Bell ringing engages various muscle groups, including the biceps, triceps, forearms, quads, and calves. This strengthens muscles and enhances definition.

Your Church Bells

The church has eight cast iron bells in a full-circle ring. They were founded by Mears and Stainbank in 1966 but overhauled in 2004 by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry.
