Apprentice Acolyte

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth."

(2 Timothy 2:15)

Apprentice Acolytes, are new Altar Servers with the opportunity to learn by observing and assisting experienced servers. Apprentices are encouraged to watch closely, absorb liturgical practices, and familiarise themselves with their sacred responsibilities.

During services, Apprentices vest in albs and participate in the entrance procession alongside the regular Altar Servers. As they progress in their training, they may be assigned simple roles such as holding the liturgical book or carrying acolyte candles under supervision.

Admission and Training

Individuals who meet the requirements to serve at the altar begin their journey at the Apprentice level. Apprentices are expected to be familiar with church services and must demonstrate an ability to follow the prayers attentively. They should be able to read and recite key prayers, actively engaging in worship.

Advancement to Junior Altar Server

Upon successfully completing three services as an Apprentice, and demonstrating competence in their training requirements, an Apprentice may request certification as a Junior Altar Server. This marks their transition to a more active role in the liturgy, with expanded responsibilities at the altar.
